Water-Efficient Shower Head Upgrades in Victoria
Use less water without giving up a comfortable shower.
Older shower heads can use significantly more water than modern water-efficient alternatives.
Under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, eligible Victorian homes and businesses can receive a discount when replacing inefficient shower heads with water-saving products.

Why Upgrade Your Shower Head?
- Water consumption — Less water is used each time you shower.
- Hot-water demand — Reducing the amount of hot water used also reduces the energy required to heat that water.
- Household running costs — Lower water and hot-water consumption can contribute to lower utility costs.
Who Is Eligible?
Under current VEU requirements, an existing shower head generally needs to have a flow rate greater than 9 litres per minute or be rated below 3 stars.
Up to three inefficient shower heads can currently be replaced per household. The old shower head must also be removed from the property and disposed of by the VEU accredited provider.
How Do I Know My Shower Head's Flow Rate?
Place a measuring container underneath your shower, turn the shower fully on and measure the amount collected over 15 seconds. Multiply that amount by four to estimate the litres used per minute.
If the result is above 9 litres per minute, your existing shower head may qualify under current VEU criteria.
Victorian Energy Upgrades Discount
The Victorian Government currently lists a shower-head discount of up to $70, although the final discount and installed price can vary depending on certificate value, installation costs, location and provider costs.
Rental Properties
Private rental properties can also be eligible. Landlords and tenants should coordinate before arranging an upgrade.
